It is inspired by Jeff Malmberg’s 2010 documentary Marwencol. The film stars Steve Carell, Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Merritt Wever, Janelle Monáe, Eiza González, Gwendoline Christie, Leslie Zemeckis, Siobhan Williams and Neil Jackson, and follows the true story of Mark Hogancamp, a man struggling with PTSD who, after being physically assaulted, creates a fictional village to ease his trauma.

Welcome to Marwen 2018 Movie – Storyline :

On April 8, 2000, aspiring artist Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) became a victim of a violent assault when five men beat him up and left him for dead. Following the attack, Mark was left with little to no memory of his previous life due to brain damage inflicted by his attackers. In a desperate attempt to regain his memories, Hogancamp constructs a miniature World War II village called Marwen in his yard to help in his recovery. Unfortunately, Mark’s demons come back to haunt him when he’s asked to testify against the five men that attacked him..

Welcome to Marwen Full Movie Review:

The most original film I’ve seen in years. On top of that, basing this on a true story, they didn’t feel the need to hollywoodise the lead character, instead keeping him intact with all his quirks, insecurities & awkwardness. The tea scene with Carrell & Leslie Mann is probably the most awkward thing I’ve seen since the English office series & it works so well. The doll sequences are spectacular, if a little too dominant of the film in the first half, but it’s a minor quibble for what is very original, heart breaking yet comedic viewing. Well worth the price of admission.
