Directed by Nikolay Khomeriki. The plot of the film is based in part on the real events that occurred in 1985 with the icebreaker Mikhail Somov, which was trapped by Antarctic ice and spent 133 days in forced drift.

The Icebreaker 2016 Movie – Storyline :

Towards the icebreaker “Mikhail Gromov” is moving a huge iceberg. Leaving from collision, the ship falls into the ice trap and is forced to drift near the coast of Antarctica. Around it only an ominous silence and a bitter cold. Fuel is running out – Nerves on edge – And even if it would be possible to go, nowhere to go anyway. The crew of the icebreaker is no margin for error. One wrong decision and heavy ice crushed the ship.

The Icebreaker Full Movie Review:

A Russian disaster film; The story wastes no time in propelling us into the action. The cinematography is impressive and therefore the drama is effective. The soundtrack may be a bit too melodramatic in parts and there are a couple of continuity problems but overall it’s good entertainment. The struggle for leadership and direction between the new martinet captain and younger demoted captain is a stimulating , pertaining to themes about unquestioned power.
