Peña plans another secret operation to topple a member of the Cali Cartel but may run out of time while looking for him.This season is intense, fast-paced, and a must watch. The continuity provided by the theme music aside, Narcos Season 3 essentially functions as the start of a brand new series under the Narcos umbrella — a backdoor anthology, if you will. It’s ridiculous, barbaric and cruel; it’s also great entertainment.

‘Narcos (Season 3) 2017’: TV Review :
The third season of the Netflix period drama, circling around the drug cartels that gave birth to an international addiction to cocaine and the American war on drugs that failed to prevent it, had a major challenge ahead of it. For two seasons, “Narcos” had Pablo Escobar, one of the most famous drug kingpins of all time, at its center. Escobar was a fascinating character, anchored by an award-nominated performance by Wagner Moura, but at the end of Season 2, Escobar’s journey on the show ended.
Thus, Season 3 resets the chess board to a massive degree, refocusing the show on the members of the Cali Cartel, which is theoretically working towards a “retirement plan” that will allow its principles to segue out of illegal activity with their livelihoods intact. But even as that’s going on, the DEA and other forces involved are still committed to, you know, stopping criminal activity surrounding drugs. Even if, as they learn over the course of the season, that is a hopeless case.

The finale of Season 3 played out more like an epilogue rather than a typical conclusion as the DEA wraps up loose ends of the Cali cartel. After the godfathers had turned themselves in, Pena and the team needed to find Guillermo the accountant in order to get his testimony on the cartel. Jorge decides to help them with this. Meanwhile, Maria attempts to figure out how she will survive without Miguel. The North Valley begins to take over.
Clearly not as exciting as Episode 9 but I think it did a great job of putting the Cali cartel story to bed. We’ve been able to see it through and see the whereabouts of what happened to the cartel godfathers and underlings. Where do we go from here? Will we pivot to Mexico and learn about the drug trade uprising there? Or will we stay in Colombia and see the North Valley’s attempts to become the king of the cocaine trade? I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.
What Season 3 proved to me is that Narcos can make a quality drama without Pablo. That was my main concern going into this season; he was such a dynamic figure, he really pushed the show to new heights. And while no one had such a dominating presence as Pablo in this season, the quality of the other actors, the great script and cinematography, the spectacular action scenes, all made Season 3 worth viewing.
