Defiance (Season 3) – Storyline:

Defiance 2nd Season (TV Series 2015): In the year 2046, it’s a new Earth – with new rules. Over thirty years after various alien races arrived on Earth, the landscape is completely altered, terraformed nearly beyond recognition. To the town of Defiance, on what used to be St. Louis, comes the mysterious Nolan (Grant Bowler) and his charge, Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas). As they settle into town – overseen by the mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) and filled with residents like the powerful Rafe McCawley (Graham Greene), enterprising lounge owner Kenya (Mia Kirshner) and the ambitious, alien Tarrs (Tony Curran and Jack Mehoff) – events begin to unfold that threaten the fragile peace this border town has fought for.

The show takes place in a post-apocalyptic future on a radically transformed Earth containing new species, some having arrived from space, many others the result of haphazard contamination by the terraforming technology used by the alien race the Votans, which has transformed native flora and fauna in unforeseen ways. The story begins in the year 2046 when Earth has been considerably changed, with new topography, the extinction of plant and animal species and the emergence of new species. The series follows Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler), his adopted alien daughter Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas), and the town’s new mayor, Amanda Rosewater (Julie Benz) in addition to an ensemble of actors portraying different characters in the growing town in the city-state of Defiance, built on the ruins of St. Louis.

‘Defiance (Season 3) 2015’: TV Review :

Look! Defiance doesn’t take itself at all seriously and that is the key to it’s success. Pretentious? Most definitely not! Here it differs from many other Sci-Fi shows rearing their heads at present. It has a real Anderson-esque sense of vibrancy, colour and intrigue.

One thing which really does please me about the show is that the makeup artist has been used to full effect. There are no digital characters on screen, thank God! This serves to give a more realistic vibe to the aesthetic in my opinion.

The show has been well cast and is well written. It wavers at times in relation to the storytelling but nothing is perfect. Furthermore, the acting is very good. I also never thought I’d find an orange coloured alien girl attractive, but then again the Pubs and Bars are full of them back home (Scotland). Sun Sprayed Sirens of the world unite and take over!

When all is said and done this show isn’t here to give you a metaphysical insight into future possibilities or instruct as to ones morality. It’s simply bright colours and fun. It’s the equivalent of a cot mobile for adults.
