Deceit is a British four-part television drama miniseries, based on the true story of a controversial undercover operation carried out by the Metropolitan Police in 1992. Niamh Algar stars as the undercover police officer, codenamed “Lizzie James”, who attempts to entrap Colin Stagg, the police’s prime suspect. The series, written by Emilia di Girolamo and produced by Story Films, received critical acclaim.

But so booooring! I don’t know the facts of the “true” story but this was just boring. Also, why did she have the recording device in her flat with no officer there overseeing the case or it hoked up to headquarters so they could be listening in? Was there no DNA technology then? I know it’s supposed to be 90’s but it looks like present time. I thought the lead looked familiar and thought it said she played mother in raised by wolves but she was Sue. No wonder I thought her acting was subpar. Any ways it’s only 4 episodes and the first 10 minutes are the most exciting and you think this is going to be good but then it gets boring. Edit to add I saw Eddie Marsan in Ray Dnvan and fund out he’s frm the UK ( odd since that’s mostly what I watch and have only saw him in 2 things) . I’m not sure the fuss abut him! He acts with zero passion and very robotic and soft spoken. He was better in RD as a loud mouth always angry New Yorker that is all….

But, this certainly isn’t it, though it tries very, very hard to be. The scenes are often overly-dramatic, full of cliched, unnecessary scenes and dialogue, and shot using some sort of camera filter that just looks bad to me. The actors are all competent, but I’m thinking that the direction and final editing was the problem here. You’ll find a much better telling of this story by just watching any of the true crime programs that have already covered the case.
