Baltic Tribes 2018 Movie – Storyline :

“The Baltic Tribes” is a story about the last pagans of Europe. Together with the main character, Danish spy Lars, you will experience the 13th century pagan life, taking part in religious rites and cruel forays, getting high during the summer solstice, becoming the slave of Cours and finally – fighting the crusaders in the Battle of Saule. The docudrama overthrows the myths of the Baltic people as just peaceful farmers, and questions, how little we know about the blood that runs in our veins.

Baltu Ciltis co-directed by Lauris Ābele and Raitis Ābele about the Baltic people in the 13th century. The film consists of historical reconstructions, live action scenes and computer animations supplemented with a voice-over narration by scientific experts of the field.

In 2016 the film received financing from the National Film Centre’s special fund for the 100th Anniversary of the Latvian Republic. In 2018 Baltic Tribes were nominated for a Lielais Kristaps National Film Festival award in the category “Best Documentary“. On October 21, 2018 Baltic tribes premiered in the U.S. at the Baltic Film festival taking place at the Scandinavian House

Review of Baltic Tribes 2018 Movie:

It’s a feature film heavily based on true events. I really enjoy this concept. ”Baltu Ciltis” tells a story of a Danish spy Lars who visits Baltic lands. Lars is of a Christian background, so some customs and certain aspects of everyday life of so called pagans seem quite weird and even scary to him. But as Lars continues his journey, he starts to strongly sympathize with the native denizens and their traditions. I really enjoyed watching ”Baltu Ciltis”. And not only due to the fact that it is historically accurate while still being a feature film. Another aspect I really like about this film is that you won’t encounter any exaggerations or impossible twists of plot during this movie.
